Stages Power meters

Stages Power meters for Team Swesports – A big thanks goes out to Stages Europe and their sponsoring of the Swesports Mountainbiking team with Stages crank based Power meters (wattmeter). Stages provides us watt measurement for training and racing for the 2017 season and is used by many of the people whom we coach in Triathlon and Cycling. The Powermeters will be used on both the Road bikes and Mountainbikes from the Team.

About Stages Power meters

The stages Power meters (wattmeter) are a lightweight powermeter for both road and mountainbikes but they also produce models for some BMX cranksets. Stages Power meters are housed on the left crank arm, and are provided for Sram, Shimano, FSA and Cannondale crank arms. Designed and assembled in Boulder, Colorado, the Stages powermeter is a pod assembled on the left crank arm, which relies on a bending beam to pick up the movement, while cadence is measured by accelerometers down to 30rpm. The data is then converted into a power reading picked up by bluetooth or Ant+ and sent to your Garmin, Stages or other headunit.

With less than 20grams of added weight and a normal CR2032 battery, it becomes one of the lightest power meters on the market. The CR2032 provides around 200 hours of use and is fully water proof.

Fitting the Power meter from Stages

Stages Power meters (wattmeter) are simple to install, by removing your left crank and replace it with the Stages model. The pod protudes from the crank arm, so some bikes such as the Scott Foil with the brake below the bottom bracket is not compatiable (unless without some spacing, or sanding of the brake cable arm). More information on installation can be found at the stages website.
